The Cahoon Museum of American Art is named in honor of the late contemporary primitive painter, Ralph Cahoon (1910-1982), and is housed in his former home and studio, a 1775 Georgian colonial building. The Museum's permanent collection ranges from folk art portraits by William Matthew Prior to marine paintings by James E. Buttersworth. Several special exhibitions are scheduled annually to supplement the permanent collection. But the heart of the collection, and a continuing focus of the exhibition year, are the paintings of Ralph and Martha Cahoon. The Museum Store has reproductions of their work which are available for purchase. If you would like to support the mission of the Cahoon Museum, please consider becoming a member. One of the benefits of membership is the Museum's newsletter, The Spyglass.
